Marietta is set northwest of Atlanta, in Georgia. Marietta Square, an 1845 former cotton warehouse houses the Marietta Museum of History. Visit the Gone with the Wind Museum, that celebrates the film and the Margaret Mitchell novel. Explore trails lace Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, site of an 1864 Civil War battle. Although the state capital is just 20 miles to the southeast, Marietta is rich in history and culture itself, particularly from the states antebellum and Civil War periods. Spreading out from a historic main square and courthouse from the 1830s, Marietta grew quickly, even after the Western and Atlantic Railroads main hub was shifted to nearby Atlanta.
