New England is the most tightly packed region in the continental United States, comprised of the states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. It covers roughly 71,000 square miles (most of which is Northern Maine) in the very northeastern United States - geographically it is some of the most diverse in the United States. This region offers bustling seaside towns, rich history, a rocky coastline with beautiful lighthouses, quaint islands, exciting locals, mountainous regions great for skiing, and so much more!
New England has been center stage for our nation’s history since the Mayflower landed near Plymouth Rock. From the midnight ride of Paul Revere to the lavish galas on Bellevue Avenue, New England offers a remarkable concentration of history.
Of America's roughly 1,000 lighthouses, more than 150 sit on the craggy coast of the small but mighty Northeast. Each of these proud landmarks has its own spirit and its own stories. Once a necessary part of coastal living, they are now charming, but largely obsolete, remnants of the region's maritime heritage. Traveling through New England in the fall offers visitors a dramatic scene of a kaleidoscope of colors in the famed fall foliage during the fantastic fall months.
