Day 1 in Copenhagen

Welcome to Copenhagen! Upon arrival, you will go through customs and immigration. Should you opt to purchase a transfer to your hotel; a representative will be waiting for you as you exit immigration. Arrive at your hotel, check in and do not give in to jet lag! There is so much for you to see and do!

Begin the afternoon with a traditional lunch of a Smorrebrod, the popular open-faced sandwich, at any of the charming cafes to be found throughout Copenhagen. Afterwards, we recommend that you get acquainted with the city by choosing an optional tour such as the `City Sightseeing Copenhagen Hop-On Hop-Off Tour` offering a great introduction of the highlights in Copenhagen.

As night approaches, walk across the Straedete in the south of Stroget for dinner. This is a charming walk with winding cobbled streets where you will find lovely boutiques and crowded cafes.

Day 2 in Copenhagen

Wake up early today and take a walk to Old Town where you can visit Christianborg Slot, which houses the Danish Parliament, and the Stock Exchange, situated on the island of Slotsholment. Then head to the Radhuset (Town Hall), Kongenshave and Ostrends Parken.

Spend a couple hours in the afternoon at the `free city` of Christiania, on the island of Christianshavn. Established independent from Denmark in 1970, a group of some 1,000 squatters have illegally taken over 130 army barracks and declared the area a free city. You can shop, dine, and talk to the natives about this community. Be aware, this area is renowned for smuggling so it is not recommended to stay after dark.

After a busy day of sightseeing, head to Nyhavn (New Harbor) the site of numerous restaurants and bars along the canals. In the summer, you can sit out at one of the cafe tables watching life along the canal and crowds of people from around the world passing by.

Day 3 in Copenhagen

Begin your day with a charming sightseeing boat tour of the city`s main canals. You`ll see the major monuments of Copenhagen such as the Opera House, the Little Mermaid, Amalienborg Slot, Christiansborg Slot, the Royal Library (Black Diamond), amongst many others. At the conclusion of your boat trip spend the rest of your day along the main streets of Stroget, the longest pedestrian street in Europe, and Straedet. There is everything from expensive shops (Chanel, Cartier or Gucci), shops of Danish designers, lovely boutiques, and everything in between. You`ll also find many pleasant cafes and restaurants all around for something delicious to eat!

On your final night in Copenhagen enjoy the evening at Tivoli Gardens. Founded in 1843 the amusement park has become a national treasure and nothing like the other parks you are accustomed to. The atmosphere is remarkable with exotic architecture, historic buildings and lush gardens. At night there are thousands of lights and Chinese lanterns all around you creating a completely unique atmosphere. Dinner at Tivoli Gardens brings choices from traditional Danish cuisine to French bistros or Asian food.

Additional Days in Copenhagen

Should you be able to spend additional days in Copenhagen take a trip outside the center of Copenhagen and discover the charming Renaissance castle Frederiksborg Slotskirke in Hillerod. It`s about 40 miles from Central station in the north of Copenhagen. The location is stunning! The castle sits on three small islands with spectacular copper spires, a wonderful baroque garden overlooking the lake Slotso, this is an unforgettable trip!

Alternatively, in the summer months, consider heading to the Amager Beach Park, opened in 2006, it is just about 15 minutes away, a 3 miles drive from the center of Copenhagen. The beach sits on Oresund coastline with a view of Sweden and the Oresund Bridge. Enjoy a swim, scuba dive, race boats or just relax and admire the ships on the Oresund.
