Ambergris Caye

Ambergris is the most popular destination in Belize, primarily because of its proximity to the largest coral reef in the western hemisphere, the Belize Barrier Reef; which lies just a half mile east of its shoreline, making it the perfect jumping off point for scuba, snorkel, and fishing enthusiasts. Although the island offers excellent swimming, most people come here for the extraordinary underwater activities and attractions.

Ambergris can be reached by commuter plane in 15-20 minutes, or by water taxi in an hour. Whichever way you travel, you will probably find yourself passing through the colorful and super relaxed town of San Pedro, with unpaved streets, and gentle palms swaying in the Caribbean breeze. Most people get around here by bicycle, golf cart, or foot. Ambergris is a premiere destination for underwater devotees. It is literally surrounded by prominent dive sites, and every type of underwater activities is available here. Ambergris is a place where you may forget to wear your shoes or shirt, but you will always remember your vacation on this exhillerating island.
